Farmer's Market, Fayetteville Style

This morning was the first day at The Fayetteville Farmer's Market, and you know I was there. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to find The Reilly Road Farmer's Market , but it's not a farmer's market, just a veggie stand that also sells nice plants.

My previous farmer's market experience is limited to Brooklyn (something near a courthouse), NYC Union Square, Portsmouth NH, and some town I've forgotten the name of near Portsmouth. I arrived late to the B'lyn FM and caught only very expensive blueberries. Union Square is way too crowded for me. The tiny town one was a winter FM and had tons of eggs and animal parts. So by default, and for good reasons, my favorite has been Portsmouth.

I just found this entry saved as a draft! But now I think I've learned enough about the Fayetteville Farmer's Market. It's cheap! But tiny. Teeny tiny. There are about 3-4 tiny tents of veggies, and there are eggs and honey and some breads including ezekiel. Strawberries are $3 instead of the $5 or $6 I paid in Portsmouth. Summer squash is about $1.10-1.50/lb, and there are some greens. And that's pretty much it. Sad.

Yesterday I went back to the "farmer's market" on Reilly Road. I spent $22 and got a 20lb watermelon (seedless, the seeded were bigger and $8 and the kid didn't want seeds), 4 ears of corn, green beans, okra, vidalia onions, peaches, zucchini, romaine and I think something else I forgot.

Portsmouth Farmer's Market, you're very expensive, but I miss you!

My local farmers market just opened today! I spent $25 and got lettuce, green onions, strawberries (they melt in your mouth!), homemade hummus, snappeas...so much stuff! This is my favorite time of year.

Congrats! :)

Mine was so lame I haven't gone for a couple of weeks. Ho hum! I'll try again soon. I really miss my old farmer's market in NH - it was expensive, but the selection was amazing.

Hi! I haven't been blogging lately, but I'm back. I just moved to Fayetteville, we live in North Fayetteville. I am thinking about joining this: https://carolinagrown.org/

They deliver a crate full of veggies to your door every saturday. I'm looking into it. You can choose from small, medium, or large, and its local, in season... I am so excited to hear about all of your tips for out here!

Awesome! Going to check it out now - thanks!! :)

Also, South Post Comm is way more vegan friendly than North Post. If I haven't already mentioned that :) And tofu is $.98 there!
