Attempted Weight Loss: The Continuing Saga

Yesterday I ended a week of RAW (well, about 95%, I still had 1/2-3/4 cup of coffee a day to avoid the detox migraines) because of a killer ezekiel multi-grain wrap craving. Mmm. A sandwich made on ezekiel with some vegenaise, sriracha and avocado . . . Anyway. This was a great opportunity for me to attempt RAW - I wanted to try a month - because my husband is out of town for the month, and I'm pretty sure he thinks RAW is crazy.

Moving on. There's a page in Jae Steele's book, Get It Ripe, where she details what she eats every day, and it's a very sensible mix of fruits, raw veggies, cooked veggies, beans, and a bit of fat (in the form of raw nuts/seeds or raw nut/seed butter). So I thought I'd try that and perhaps a bit of Eat to Live (aka ETL).

So breakfast today was coffee (with kikkoman vanilla soy milk and some sugar in the raw) and a banana - oddly enough, that was enough for the time being (I'm normally starving all morning long).

Lunch was a green smoothie - 1 banana, 1 orange, 1 cup frozen raspberries, 2 cups spinach, 1 tbsp of flax seed.

A bit later, I freaked a bit and had about 2 tablespoons of chocolate and butterscotch chips. And then a Zen Soy Vanilla Chocolate pudding. Mmmm. Dinner was a chili recipe I found here with some brown rice.

I started my morning organizing my pantry (top shelf = unvegan things for the husband, and pleas excuse the goldfish on the bottom - le major sigh here),

and my freezer.

Back to my original point - I lost 2 lbs on RAW in a week. And today, some jerky guy called me pregnant. He didn't say it, but he did that hand motion over his stomach that says "baby bump." Fork him.

People shouldn't feel the need to make a comment/gesture in reference to someone else's body.

But your food sounds good, I need some motivation to increase my Raw food intake!

I Commented on your blog a few days ago. The girl moving to Ft. Bragg. Anyhoo, just wanted to link my new blog to yours. Hope it's ok. You inspired me and also your list of blogs..I've been looking at them all day and am going to go vegan! Thanks!

Mandee - so true!! If a woman doesn't say "I am currently pregnant, there is a baby in me right now" then shut your mouth! And it's sad I have to make a very obvious effort to eat RAW, but shouldn't we all be at least 50%? Fresh fruit as snacks, salads with dinner . . .

And hi Wanna Be! :) I promise, it's way easier than it seems. Let me know if you have questions! I have way too many vegan cookbooks - you can come over and our kids can play and you can peruse my cookbooks :)

What the what?! Gestures like that deserve junk punchage!

Yay for losing 2 lbs on raw.

Sometimes I get totally overwhelmed with eating raw. It's easy when you just eat basic things, but to make more advanced stuff takes sooo much planning and time.

Thanks Mo! And from now on, I'm telling people what jerks they are when they do that. Like this guy made the hand symbol like curving around a belly - new me would say "what, I get the seat cause I'm fat?" And I'll go from there :)

It is tough. I actually fell out cause I was dying for an ezekiel wrap, which was a dumb reason - lots of raw people eat ezekiel stuff sometimes. I find that I hate most dehydrated things - patties and what not.

hi there,
thanks for the *Get It Ripe* mention!

it's funny, when people write me for nutritional advise, i'm bothered by the pressure to give it, and then when i simply read someone's blog, it's hard for me to resist offering it up!

if you're open to it, i might suggest that you get in some protein/amino acids earlier in the day (in part to avoid an afternoon crash). may be as simple as hemp or pumpkin seed protein pwd and/or 1 tbsp maca powder and/or 1 tbsp spirulina pwd in your smoothie, or a handful of pumpkin seeds or almonds and gogi berries with your banana at breakfast.

coffee addiction is rough, ain't it? the only way to address detox headaches is to get through them for a few days, and with lots of water, herb tea and fruit and veg, they'll clear! (at least as a start put a 1/4-1/2 tsp of cinnamon in your coffee.)

finding a daily eating plan that really works for you can take ages. (thanks for the space to let me offer my 2 cents!)

good luck and joy on your path.

Jae - Thank you so much! And I am definitely open to advice. I have hemp protein powder on hand right now, and spirulina tablets I take at night (I can't handle the taste at all:) I also have almonds and gojis on hand.

And it is rough - I've quit a few times for various reasons (to quit refined sugar for weight loss, quit caffeine to help w/ headaches) and after over a month of each w/ no benefits, I went back. (It's yummy!) I do now drink <1 cup a day most days (never more than 1 1/2 cups).

Thanks again!!

Merci :)

Hi :) One of my vegan friends was nice enough to roughly translate the french for me - There is no palm oil in the Pam, but I do keep meaning to buy an olive oil mister so I can stop buying things like Pam. I don't buy them often - 1 or 2 a year. I will check out the movie later, thank you! :)
