Less Green!

My green smoothies these days usually consist of 2-3 cups of greens, 2 bananas, ground flax seed, some hemp protein powder and maybe some other fruit. And sometimes, I just don't like them. But I've noticed that other people tend to put dates or agave in their smoothies, or more bananas (which I feel are the key to a good smoothie). It used to be that the only smoothies I would drink were orange juice blended with bananas (thanks to a lady at a juice stand at the upside down pyramid mall in St. Petersburg, FL near the fancy shmancy hotel and the dolphins) so when I started drinking green smoothies I just added some baby spinach to that. In an attempt to be healthier, I gave up the orange juice, and sometimes will put a whole orange in for the fiber, but it's just not the same sweetness.

So. I shall use less greens when I'm not feeling them. Today, less greens are because all I have is red leaf lettuce. So today's smoothie: 2 bananas, 2 large lettuce leaves, 1 c. grapes, teeny bit of agave and some ground flax seeds. And too sweet!! Ah well. I'll find my middle ground again.

I'm out of bananas and I keep waiting for them to go on sale (or be in the reduced produce bin).. today my smoothie was just spinach, flax and frozen pineapple. I didn't mind it, but frozen banana would have been so much better. I can't wait for the weather to warm up.. I will enjoy my smoothies so much more then

I have yet to do the green smoothie thing. I think because I just don't make a lot of smoothies in general...but it sounds like such a good idea!

I love banana smoothies and ordinarily my family wouldn't even eat bananas. But since I started buying them to blend for smoothies, they can't keep their grubby hands off 'em! I haven't had a smoothie in at least two weeks. I bet if I got some greens, they wouldn't even think of it, lol.

I've been getting basil at MB.. lafayette rd.. they don't have the unpackaged kind anymore, so I've been getting the jumbo pack. They moved it though.. it's near the mushrooms and tofu.

MB used to carry baby coconuts. I would ask them about it. Not sure where else except lo's.. maybe philbricks? I rarely step foot in that store because of the prices.

I have never ever made a green smoothie, but I was thinking about putting it into my routine. And dates are the shizzle in smoothies.

i have a green smoothie every morning too! except for i use dr. schulze's "superfood" powder which is blue green algae, spirulina algae, wheatgrass, etc. (herbdoc.com if you want to check it out). anyway, i always put a spoonful of peanut butter in my smoothie and it helps with the overpowering flavor of greenness. if you like peanut butter, you might want to try it! i also find that frozen blueberries are great too.
