Our new Saturday "thing"

For the last 2 Saturdays, the kiddo and I have gone to a farmer's market, and after, we go to the park, of course.

Here is a picture of this week's haul:

I tried to duplicate the pizza rolls at the B36 blog - http://b36kitchen.blogspot.com/2008/07/pizza-aint-swirl-no-moreits-roll.html - I didn't do well, but they were yummy!

Today we bought Dreena Burton's "Eat, Drink & Be Vegan" and it all looked so good, that I actually made all the items in one of the picture! Orange sesame tofu, coconut lime basmati rice and simple swiss chard. Yums! It went over pretty well with Livi, considering that I think she's coming down with something.

Oh, and just for fun, here's a pic of Livi in her Stokke highchair - a cool $230 highchair that I got for $5 at a yard sale! WOO HOO!!!

The rolls look great! Very free form! I'll say it again but i'm so jealous of your highchair find.

thanks ladies :) and sure, free form, that's it - i'd still prefer nice and purty like yours, jenna!

you have inspired me to try and cook more dinners (healthful ones) but how do you manage so well with your little one. I can't even make a pb&j without mine tugging at my leg!!

Hi Grace :) I was thinking about your question because I used to be unable to get anything done with Livi around and I'm trying to remember what changed.

I will say her new favorite thing is coloring, and this takes up a lot of her time - she sits at the table in the kitchen and colors, or she pulls all the plastic containers and such off the shelves. We have the tadoodles things - http://www.crayola.com/products/list.cfm?categories=BEGINNINGS - and color wonder markers and a blank pad - http://www.crayola.com/products/list.cfm?categories=COLOR%20WONDER -

Also, I try to start figuring out early in the day if she's having a whiny/clingy day or a good day, which clearly dictates the level of involvement in dinner.

As an example, for the pizza rolls, I started the dough about an hour before I wanted dinner (bread machine! does all the work!) and made the cashew ricotta earlier in the day when she was preoccupied. Plus, once she realizes that sometimes, you just have other things to do, she'll learn to adapt. Sometimes :)

I can't believe you got a Stokke for five bucks! I'm so SUPER jealous...that beats any of my recent thrifting finds.
